Choosing a clinic management system
Seven questions to ask before you commit, whatever you buy.
Start with your day, not the feature list
Write down what happens to a patient from the moment they arrive until they pay. Every system should make that path shorter. If a demo does not follow your path, ask to see it that way.
Ask what you pay for
Some systems charge for everything up front. Others let you start with the pieces you use and add more later. Prefer the second kind: a clinic that only dispenses medicine should not pay for inpatient wards.
Check who can see what
Ask how roles work. A receptionist should not open clinical notes, and an accountant should not edit prescriptions. Ask to see the audit log and who can read it.
Ask about your data
Can you export everything? What happens to your records if you stop paying? A good answer is specific and written down.
Test with real work
Run a week of real patients through a trial. The first week shows what a demo hides: slow screens, missing prices, confusing steps.
