Dental charting: paper versus digital
What changes when the chart lives on a screen, and what does not.
What gets faster
Finding past findings, building a treatment plan and totalling fees take seconds instead of minutes. The history of every tooth is in one place.
What gets safer
A signed plan with a stored hash is harder to dispute than a verbal agreement. Notes can be amended without erasing what was written first.
What stays the same
Good charting is still about what you observe. A system helps you record it cleanly; it does not examine the patient.
How to switch
Chart new findings digitally from day one and enter old history only when a patient returns. You do not need to retype every old file.
